A expression that is used when a button appears on the screen but will not work. It usually will not work because of the current environment of the software or hardware package. The color of the button appears more dim than the other buttons to provide a visual indication that it is not available to be used at this moment in time.
With the introduction of FileMaker 9, FileMaker has made it much easier to make text dimmed on buttons. The new feature is called conditional formatting and allows control of text formatting via a calculation type dialog box.
