Introduced with FileMaker 9, this replaces the Define File References feature in FileMaker 7 and above. Primarily used to link multiple FileMaker files together to build an overall FileMaker solution. The most unique twist in this feature is it’s ability to work with external SQL sources much like if they were external FileMaker tables. To connect to an external data source, a driver must be setup on the users machine or (better yet) via the FileMaker 9 server.
