CATEGORY: Scripting
CLASS: Script Steps
Insert From Index is a script step that allows you to see the index of a field in a pop-up menu and then allow the user to select one of the existing items to insert. Of course, it only works with fields that CAN be indexed. This command does have the limitation that the field being inserted into HAS TO BE on the current layout when the script step is executed. Insert From Index does have two options, which are Select Entire Contents and Go To Target Field. The title of either option describes pretty well what their intended purpose would be.
HOW IT IS USED
It's used in both Browse and Find Modes, usually when the user is not quite sure what they are wanting to paste ... but ... they know they may suspect it is a common record entry. It also helps to make sure you have consistent entry into the field with less of a possibility of a spelling error (unless the original is spelled wrong). There is an option setting to show individual words or the entire text string.
Here you can see the insert from index script step in action. Right now, it is showing you a tiny little bit of the index from my Blog Title field. ADVERTISEMENT ==================
