In the Manage Fields dialog box, you can choose a number of ways to see the listed fields via a pop down menu in the upper right corner. These include creation order, field name, field type and custom order. The selection of the custom order allows you to move fields up and down the list to build a custom order.
Many developers prefer this setting as it allows them to organize their fields for quick use without implementing a particular naming convention. The custom order option can be found in other areas of FileMaker as well including table view, view accounts, view account privileges, manage value lists, manage external data sources, manage custom function, manage custom menus and likely more!
